Miró, O’Keefe, Magritte and Picasso are familiar names to art lovers, and thanks to the ladies of the International Culture Club these names are also familiar to the students at our Cockrell Hill site. Each month, ICC volunteers lead lessons and hands-on art projects in each classroom. They rotate monthly, which allows children to learn and express themselves through various forms of art. ICC volunteers also put together an art show at Cockrell Hill where parents were able to see their child’s masterpieces on display. Thank you ICC volunteers!

Mi Escuelita launched our new ASPIRE program in 2018. ASPIRE grew from the question, “What can we do to make even more of a difference for the children of Mi Escuelita?” After processing the question of what we can do to make more of an impact on the children at Mi Escuelita, we identified three areas that we aspire to improve including parent engagement and training, teacher training and mentorship, and child literacy. We have completed parent engagement and training at several Mi Escuelita sites with parents now reporting that they have stronger relationships with their children, talk more with their children, and engage more positively with their children. Parents also highly recommend the parenting program to other Mi Escuelita parents. Thanks so much to our staff and parents who put these great trainings together!
