Teacher Recognized For Exemplary Work

For twenty-one years Janie Medrano has helped children learn to love words, language, and school.  In recognition of her special skills in teaching preschoolers at Mi Escuelita Preschool, Ms. Medrano was awarded the Elaine Krause Award for Exemplary Teacher by the Dallas Association for the Education of Young Children on June 11.

Ms. Medrano came to Mi Escuelita as a volunteer when her grandchildren enrolled.  Her love of children and her ability to help them learn was so apparent to staff that they encouraged her to pursue her teaching certification.  She joined Mi Escuelita’s Crossover Site as a team teacher in 1988.  Since that time hundreds of children have benefited from her caring, positive method of helping children not only master the basics but learning a new language as well.  Ms Medrano has also helped her peers, mentoring other teachers and encouraging young people to become teachers.

"When you see Ms. Medrano working she never gives the impression that she is under stress or is bothered by anything. Her positive attitude impacts everyone around her. She manages to strike a perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness with her peers, parents and the community. Not only has Ms. Medrano impacted the lives of thousands of children over the last twenty years, but she has mentored many teachers, who will touch thousands of lives for generations" says Gayle Nave, Mi Escuelita Executive Director.

A dedicated and exceptional teacher, Janie Medrano is truly deserving of this recognition.
