Mi Escuelita Teachers Featured As Exemplary Literacy Teachers

Three teachers at Mi Escuelita Preschool are featured in the recently published book Exemplary Literacy Teachers: What Schools Can Do to Promote Success for All Students

Ms Elizabeth Bernal (deceased), Ms. Lucinda Castillo, and Ms. Alma Rodriguez are included in the book for their use of best practices in the classroom.  The authors describe how their teaching styles demonstrate the techniques that lead to significantly higher levels of student achievement.  The classroom activities they use teach others how to engage children in the learning process.

“The heart and soul of any educational program is the quality and spirit of the individual teacher” says Gayle Nave, Mi Escuelita Executive Director.  “I am so proud that Mi Escuelita teachers have been recognized as exemplary teachers in the field of early literacy.  Their dedication to children and the importance of literacy has changed the lives of hundreds of students and will continue to do so far into the future.”

Exemplary Literacy Teachers: What Schools Can Do to Promote Success for All Students is the most recent book in a series published by The Guilford Press that is devoted to solving problems in the teaching of literacy.  Authors Cathy Collins Block, PhD, and John N. Mangieri, PhD, provide insight into what it takes to be an exemplary literacy teacher through an examination of relevant literature and studies and by observing teachers in the classroom.
