What’s Happening At Mi Escuelita – The New Year

It’s a new year at Mi Escuelita Preschool and 2013 has already brought  new adventures and worlds of imagination to the children of Mi Escuelita Preschool.  Science was the big theme for the month of January, as organizations such as the Perot Museum, came out to several of our sites to engage children with space exploration, dinosaurs and a host of other science related topics.  Students at all of our centers also read several of  Eric Carle’s classic children’s books and brought them to life through classroom activities.  Take a look at the pictures below and you’ll see that January was a great start to the 2013 year at Mi Escuelita Preschool.
Crossover
The theme of the month was Dinosaurs and students at Crossover had the opportunity to perform their own archaeological dig, right in the classroom!
Besides learning about dinosaurs, Mi Escuelita children got to dress up like their favorite dinosaur. Thankfully these dinosaurs were tiny!
Learning about dinosaurs was fun and gave the children of Crossover an opportunity to experience science as a fun activity.
To top off their science theme month, Crossover got a visit from the Perot museum’s Portable Universe where the children got to crawl inside and discover that it truly is “One World, One Sky”.
Students from the Episcopal School of Dallas dropped by in January to participate in Eric Carle activities with the children.
Safety First! Here Mi Escuelita children from our Crossover site are practicing their school bus seat belt rules and etiquette.
Buckner
Classroom 3 at Mi Escuelita’s Buckner site proudly displays their Eric Carle collage. Eric Carle is a children’s book author known for such books as “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear”.
Bethany
Children at Mi Escuelita are encouraged to retell a story they’ve read in various creative ways. Here a child retells an Eric Carle story on the classroom flannel board.
Children from Mi Escuelita’s Bethany site are creating the “tallest tower”. Notice the Eric Carle inspired decorations on the wall behind the children. That entire art piece was created by Mi Escuelita parents.

During journal time, children are encouraged to dictate what they’ve observed that day in class, which in this case was a ladybug.
